Shastras declare that the main characteristic of the Veda is its non-human (“अपौरुषेयम्” / Apourusheyam) authorship. Anything created by humans is Pourusheyam; a thing not created by humans is Apourusheyam. The Veda has been the life-breath of Bhagavan eternally from beginningless time, from Kalpa to Kalpa.
“ ऋषयो मन्त्र द्रष्टार: ”
Rishis ‘saw’ the Veda mantras with the power of Tapas. If they had authored those mantras, would they not have been called Mantra Kartas (creators of mantras)? But Rishis have traditionally been called Mantra Drashtas (seers of mantras). They saw the mantras with their Tapas and Bhagavan's grace. It is said “ श्रुतिं पश्यति मुनय: ” — ‘Seers see the Veda’.
